Larger than nearby St. Thomas, St. Croix is another unincorporated part of the United States, but things are a bit different here. Of course English is the primary language so it’s popular with Americans, but it’s also a bit harder to reach since there are very few long-haul flights that come directly to the island.
And unlike most other Caribbean islands, St. Croix only has cruise ships in a couple times per week in high season so most days the atmosphere is dominated by locals and the overnight tourists. There’s great diving, snorkeling, fishing, and sailing off of St. Croix, but shopping is another big activity since prices are very low compared to most other Caribbean islands.
St. Croix is mostly a mid-priced Caribbean island, so it’s not ideal for the real budget traveler or for those with limitless holiday budgets.

A visit to this island will present you with steady temperatures in the 70s to 80s along with sunny days and light breezes caused by the eastern trade winds.
Weather is generally great throughout the year except for hurricane season. During this time, St Croix tends to get the short end of the stick and experiences heavy rains, strong winds and structural damage in its towns. If you can, it’s best to plan your vacation outside of hurricane season, which runs from July to November, unless you decide to pay close attention to the weather during and before your trip.

There are several dozen resorts and hotels on St. Croix, plus a number of smaller inns and lodges in the two main towns on the island. Most resorts are located on the northern shore overlooking the bay, with nice private beaches.
Prices for resorts in St. Croix are in the mid-range for the Caribbean, with very few real budget places and only a handful of luxury resorts as well.

As the crowds in winter increase, so do the prices. During the rest of the year prices level out and even decrease during the summer months. If you’re looking to vacation during the shoulder seasons, May and late fall, you’ll be rewarded with balanced prices and great weather.
