Sharm el-Sheikh has become a very popular destination for Europeans seeking budget sunshine holidays, but as trouble in the region has heated up again, fewer people are willing to take the chance on a visit.
The warm and dry weather all year round has not been enough of a lure for many potential visitors, so hotel rates in the city have come down quite a bit as they struggle for business. Food and even drinks are good deals here by international resorts standards, though not as cheap as in Cairo, which has its own worries.
While most people come here just to relax by the beach, there are plenty of water-sport activities to choose from, at generally appealing prices. Once things in the region seem to have stabilized again, we expect Sharm el-Sheikh to come back in a big way.
