Montreal is actually a bit cheaper than some other large Canadian cities, and the food and drinks are among the best. The city has loads of little independent places that offer deals, so you don’t have to give in and go to chain restaurants. The French influence helps make the cuisine a real treat. Make sure you try a bagel and some poutine.

Montreal usually has pleasant summers, although the humidity can get a bit stifling on the worst days. Spring and autumn can be nice enough, though temperatures even through the day can be hard to predict. The winters are usually bitter cold for extended periods, making the underground city very handy.
